The Bunk-In
Program

A unique opportunity for college students and young adults to live at the firehouse, respond to real emergency calls, and gain hands-on fire and EMS experience — all while pursuing their degree.

Bunk-In members receive on-site housing, mentorship from veteran firefighters, and a direct path to full NSFD membership upon completion.

How to Join

From Interested
to On-Call.

Meet the Team

Visit the station, ask questions, see if it's the right fit. No commitment at this stage.

Complete Training

We cover 100% of state-certified Fire and/or EMS training. Most programs run on weekends over a few months.

04

Join the Family

Once certified, you're official. Pick your assignments and start serving North Syracuse.

Who Can Join

Dedicated.
That's the Requirement.

You don't need experience. You need commitment to your community and a willingness to learn.

  • At least 18 years of age (16–17 via Junior program with parental consent)
  • Resident of or employed in North Syracuse or surrounding area
  • Able to pass a basic physical fitness evaluation
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory background check
  • Willingness to complete required state certifications
  • Availability of 2 shifts or roughly 10 hours per month

Suppression, search & rescue, hazmat. FF1 & FF2 certification provided.

🚑 Emergency Medical

EMT-Basic and Advanced. Medical first responder on all calls.

🚒 Driver / Operator

Operate engines, tankers, rescue apparatus. EVOC training provided.

🏠 Bunk-In Member

Live-in for students. On-site housing with full call response access.

⚙️ Support Staff

Admin, communications, logistics, and community outreach roles.

Keep our 5-piece apparatus fleet and equipment mission-ready.
